In September 1985 I entered the United States Marine Corps.

I attended boot camp at MCRD in San Diego, California, where I graduated in December 1985 at the rank of E-2 (PFC). While attending boot camp I received my badges as expert with the 45-caliber pistol and M-16 riffle.

I went to Infantry Training School (ITS) at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina from January through March 1986. Upon completion I was an Automatic Machine Gunner. While attending ITS I received my classification as an expert with the M-60 machine gun and 50-calibur machine gun.

In April 1986 I was stationed at Mare Island, Nuclear Refueling Depot for Submarines in Vallejo, California, as a member of the Security Forces. I was one of several Marines that were responsible for the security and protection of the base, including the Confidential Industrial Area on the island.

In September 1986 I was promoted to E-3 (LCpl).

In January 1997 I was transferred to Concord Navel Weapons Station in Concord, California, as a member of the Security Forces. I was one of several Marines that were responsible for the security and protection of the base, including the International Waterway that ran along the base.

In May 1988 I was discharged from the United States Marine Corps.
